Position Overview

The Austin Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM) invites applications for the position of Clinic Director for Periodontics, serving as a full-time clinical periodontist within the institute.

This role is designed for a periodontist who wants to maintain a robust, procedurally dense clinical practice comparable to a high-performing private practice, while also shaping the future of periodontal education within a well-resourced academic environment.

The Clinic Director will be providing comprehensive periodontal and implant care to patients referred from AEGD and specialty programs. 

Clinical Practice Environment

AIDM operates within one of the largest integrated academic dental clinical environments in Texas, generating a substantial and consistent referral base across multiple specialties.

The Periodontics Clinic Director will practice in an environment characterized by:

• High Procedural Volume: A steady and diverse case load including surgical periodontal therapy, implant placement, hard and soft tissue grafting, ridge augmentation, and interdisciplinary full-arch rehabilitation

• Built-In Referrals: Cases generated organically from AEGD, Prosthodontics, Orthodontics, Endodontics, and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

• Hospital-Level Resources: Access to an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) for IV sedation and complex surgical cases

• Advanced Infrastructure: Digital imaging, surgical suites, and integrated treatment planning workflows

This model is intentionally structured to mirror the pace, productivity, and financial viability of private practice, while eliminating the overhead and administrative burden typically borne by private practitioners.

Academic & Educational Role

In parallel with clinical care, the Clinic Director will play a central role in postgraduate education by:

• Providing chairside instruction and mentorship to AEGD residents and specialty trainees on periodontal and implant procedures

• Participating in interdisciplinary treatment planning conferences

• Serving as the periodontal content expert across multiple programs

Teaching responsibilities are designed to complement—not compromise—clinical productivity.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive periodontal and implant care as a full-time clinician

• Provide instruction and mentorship to residents across programs

• Establish clinical and educational standards for periodontal care at AIDM

• Participate in interdisciplinary planning and case conferences

Compensation & Appointment Structure

Qualifications

• Education: DDS or DMD from a CODA-accredited institution or foreign equivalent

• Training: Completion of a CODA-accredited Advanced Education Program in Periodontics

• Certification: Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology (required)

• Experience:

  • Minimum 5–7 years of clinical experience in periodontics

  • Demonstrated expertise in implant surgery and regenerative procedures

  • Prior teaching or academic involvement preferred

• Licensure: Eligibility for a Texas dental license
