The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Dental Hygienist to join its General Practice Residency (GPR) unit in the Primary Care Division. The GPR provides excellent, comprehensive treatment offers general dentistry at the postdoctoral level including hospital -based dentistry, as well as treatment of medically compromised and special needs patients. The GPR faculty members are leaders in their profession, and you will work with respected clinicians and educators as well as our GPR residents to provide the best care to our patients.
The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the fourth largest public dental school in the United States, and it is the only public dental school in Ohio. The college is divided into ten divisions with all major ADA-recognized dental specialties represented. The College has approximately 600 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs.
Dental Hygienists prevent and treat disease, disorders and conditions of the oral cavity. Duties may include taking and developing dental x-rays, cleaning teeth, placing sealants and fluorides on the teeth, teaching patients how to brush and floss properly and taking patient history. Educates the patient on nutrition to optimize good dental health and more. This position will stock and set up operatories; manages patient record; and provides education to patients.
A dental hygienist needs to be able to use of both hands, dexterity in the fingers and the ability to manipulate instruments, materials, dental handpieces, and operate dental equipment. The use of feet is necessary to manipulate the rheostat for handpieces or other dental equipment. The body must be able to work from a dental stool in order to perform most dental procedures. The ability to sit and stand for a duration of time is also necessary. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: bloodborne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); vibrating equipment; use of sharp instruments; and latex.
This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.
Qualifications
Required: Two- or Four-year Dental Hygiene degree. Ohio Dental Hygienist license by the Ohio State Dental Board.
