Referral/authorization coordinator and scheduler
- Maintain schedules for Graduate providers for patient appointments that support Endodontics and Periodontics.
- Coordinate same day appointments with other departments to optimize multi-discipline treatment.
Customer Service:
- Manage phone calls from internal and external providers for the Endodontics and Periodontics clinics regarding procedure.
- Triage patient calls and routes the patient concern to appropriate provider or work with Clinic Coordinator to determine urgency of care needed
- Provide backup coverage for collecting patient payments, verifying insurance, in person registration
- Coordinate same day appointments with other departments to optimize multi-discipline treatment
- Prepare New Patient information and ensure patients have received all paperwork needed prior to their dental appointment, pre-register & verify insurance.Â
- Obtain all information for appointments, including referral, insurance, release of information and radiographs and transfers to MiDent from the external referral database.Â
- Provide patients with appropriate information for patient appointments by identifying appropriate procedure code, scheduling, billing, biopsy pre-auth if needed, and charges of procedure to ensure patient financial responsibility.Â
- Provide explanation to the patient of what the appointment(s) will entail and nature of the procedure being performed (gather pre-appointment patient documentation and/or assistance with post appointment information to referring provider as needed).
- Verification and update as necessary of dental insurance on date of service. (Medicaid, Delta Dental, Healthy MI)
- Work with patient schedulers to prepare and submit Prior Authorizations for patients. Review and ensure all PA’s are received prior to treatment being rendered.Â
Support Duties:
- Daily clinic tasks (reminder call report, referral tracking,etc)
- Assign providers to patients the day after the appt for patient management.

- Demonstrate basic computer skills using Microsoft Office products
- Have excellent punctuality and attendance record.
- Experience using a computerized patient information system and appointment scheduling software ( i.e. MiDent, Axium, MiChart)
- Experience in a dental or medical office.Â
- Has reasonable knowledge of dental billing and insurance policies and procedures.
- Previous experience in dental billing and collections. Â
This is a one year term limited position with the School of Dentistry.
This position will support 2 departments, Endodontics and Periodontics.
