The Office of Clinical Services (OCS) at the School of Dentistry encompasses the Patient Registration and Patient Relations offices, Simulation Clinic and Labs, Central Sterilization, two dispensaries, and facilities maintenance team. OCS supports the operations of 13 dental clinics in delivering dental care to the state’s largest and most diverse patient population. The UW School of Dentistry (UWSOD) has an outstanding opportunity for a Dental Maintenance Manager. Under the general direction of the Associate Dean for Clinics, the Maintenance Manager is responsible for the maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment of UW School of Dentistry clinics and clinical support offices. The Dental Maintenance Manager supervises the Dental Maintenance team and is the primary point of contact for equipment vendors, and interfaces with UW and Health Sciences Facilities and maintenance shops. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to take direction, meet expectations, and work cohesively as a member of a team; work independently and successfully to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects and assigned tasks; possess excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work successfully with people at all levels throughout an organization and with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Dental Maintenance provides limited support to eight academic offices and the offices of the Dean, Student Services, Clinical Services, IT/Computer Support, Regional Affairs/RIDE/IPE, Research, Academic Affairs, Office of Advancement, and Regional Clinic Dental Research Center. The Maintenance Manager and staff are responsible for general maintenance, repair, alterations, and renovations for the following clinics: Advanced General Dentistry, Dental Urgent Care, the D1 Simulation Clinic and Labs, D2, D3, DECOD, Dental Urgent Care, Dental Fears, Endodontics, Maxillofacial Prosthetic Service, Oral Medicine, Oral Surgery clerkship, Orthodontics, Graduate Periodontics, Graduate Prosthodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, and the D4 Faculty Practice. Clinics and offices are located in the D and B wings of the Magnuson Health Sciences building, and at Building 5 in nearby Magnuson Park. The graduate oral surgery and pediatric dentistry clinics, Center for Pediatric Dentistry, and the Northwest Center for Oral and Facial Surgery are located at Magnuson Park.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
General: •Monitor and prioritize incoming electronic work requests from the DentFix help desk system and independently manage work scheduling and completion of projects. •Coordinate projects with Dental Maintenance staff, UW Facilities CareTeam or outside vendors. •Independently manage projects according to approved program, budget, and schedule parameters. •Create and maintain equipment aging and maintenance schedule for strategic planning of equipment repairs or replacement. •Obtain approvals for changes to budget and schedule as required. •Manage and supervise dental maintenance staff; lead the Dental Maintenance team to develop solutions to issues that arise during all phases of projects. •Maintain inventories, analyze systems, and prepare budgetary and related reports on maintenance or construction. •Seek competitive cost proposals for service providers; make selections based on the limit of delegated authority. •Obtain budget authorizations and reauthorizations for changes in project costs. •Coordinate, schedule and implement planned maintenance activities and projects with emphasis on safety and minimal disruption to clinical and office activities, giving advance notice to administrative heads. •Identify and lead preparation of equipment for surplus disposal and coordinate pick up by UW Surplus. •Monitor quarterly wastewater flow, pull, and send samples for testing. Maintain recordkeeping of test results. •Facilitate the collection of operational data to determine recommended maintenance and repair activities to be used to develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs •Receive, organize, and maintain equipment maintenance documentation and manuals including specifications, and maintenance manuals.
Facility Support: •Support the Dental Maintenance evening crew in providing weekly suction line maintenance at School’s Sand Point facilities for weekly line and trap cleaning of clinic dental chairs, and maintenance of lab space. •Perform onsite and offsite dental maintenance to include repairs, routine maintenance, monitoring medical gasses, changing tanks as needed, changing plaster traps. •Coordinate annual site visits with Environmental Health & Safety for x-ray and gas safety checks. •Serve as point of contact and site visit coordinator for all equipment vendors for service and repair.
Coordination: •Communicate with the Associate Dean for Clinics to ensure he/she is informed on maintenance issues. •Maintain relationships with various contacts throughout UW to facilitate work. •Provide access to, and assistance in, locating records, documentation, data, and other information to School of Dentistry management, EH&S or other University offices, and outside regulatory agencies.
Compliance: Complete ongoing Relias workforce compliance as required. •Adhere to all University and School of Dentistry policies and protocols. •Know and comply with occupational safety and health regulations that apply to work actions and conduct on the job, including Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) instructions, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) whenever required. •Maintain knowledge of safety training requirements, life safety standards, environmental agency requirements and certification/licensing requirements.
Organizational Leadership and Engagement: •Positively support all management directives and actively promote these to the Dental Maintenance team. •Assist in the development and implementation of planned facility renovation projects. •Actively participate in meetings and trainings as scheduled; Regular and predictable attendance is required. •Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
•Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or other related degree plus six years of experience in physical plant operations/facilities management. •Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. •Excellent problem-solving skills. •Excellent organizational skills.

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS:
•Valid driver's license recognized by the State of Washington. •While work normally falls within standard business hours, the position requires flexibility to deal with emergency situations and other scheduled work outside of the school’s normal hours. •Must be able to work in a smoke-free environment. •Must be able to wear all proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required. •Ability to lift and move heavy material may be required. •An annual tuberculosis (TB) test is required for work in clinics. •A satisfactory outcome from a criminal background verification will be required prior to hire.
